| Abstract | Mental workload is one of the factors that can affect the performance of medical record staff in carrying out their duties. High job demands, concentration, time pressure, and responsibilities that must be completed may increase mental workload and consequently affect work performance. This study aimed to determine the effect of mental workload measured using the NASA-Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) method on the performance of medical record staff at Madani General Hospital Medan in 2026. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design. The population consisted of all medical record staff at Madani General Hospital Medan, totaling 30 respondents; therefore, total sampling was used as the sampling technique. Data were collected using the NASA-TLX questionnaire and a performance questionnaire, and were analyzed using univariate analysis and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that mental workload had a significant effect on the performance of medical record staff, with a t-value of 8.545 and a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.723, indicating that 72.3% of the variation in the performance of medical record staff could be explained by mental workload, while the remaining 27.7% was influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that mental workload measured using the NASA-TLX method has a significant effect on the performance of medical record staff at Madani General Hospital Medan. Therefore, the hospital is recommended to conduct regular workload evaluations to ensure a more balanced distribution of tasks so that the performance of medical record staff can remain optimal. | 1 |
