Abstract Siagian, Rini Febrianty. Formulation of Cream Preparation and Determination of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) Value of Ethanol Extract of Passion Fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims) Peel Using Spectrophotometry. 2026. Thesis, Bachelor of Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husada Health Institute, Deli Tua. (Supervised by: apt. Tio Ranti Sari Sembiring, S.Farm., M.K.M.) Passion fruit peel (Passiflora edulis Sims) contains active compounds such as flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and antioxidants that have the potential to protect the skin from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This study is aimed to formulate the ethanolic extract of passion fruit peel into a cream dosage form and to determine its Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value using the UV-Visible spectrophotometric method. This research employed an experimental design. The cream formulations consisted of a base cream (F0) and three extract concentrations: F1 (1%), F2 (3%), and F3 (5%). The physical quality evaluation included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, cream type, pH, spreadability, viscosity, and adhesion tests. The SPF value was determined by measuring the absorbance at wavelengths of 290–320 nm using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer and calculated using the Mansur equation. The in vitro SPF test showed that the cream base (F0) had an SPF value of 7.16, F1 (1%) had an SPF value of 15.15, F2 (3%) had an SPF value of 24.70, and F3 (5%) had an SPF value of 35.01. The results indicate that increasing the concentration of passion fruit peel extract enhanced the SPF value, with F3 demonstrating the highest sunscreen protection. It can be concluded that passion fruit peel extract has the potential to be developed as a natural sunscreen ingredient due to its antioxidant activity and UV-protective properties. Long-term stability testing of the cream formulation is recommended to determine its physical, chemical, and microbiological stability during storage.
