| Abstract | Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin disorder associated with the proliferation of Cutbacterium acnes. Continuous use of synthetic antibacterial agents can lead to skin irritation and bacterial resistance, prompting the exploration of natural alternatives. Pluchea indica leaves contain various bioactive compounds with potential antibacterial activity. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a face scrub gel containing ethanolic extract of Pluchea indica leaves and to determine its exfoliating and antibacterial activity against Cutibacterium acnes. This experimental study involved raw material preparation, phytochemical screening, extraction via maceration using 96% ethanol, formulation of face scrub gels containing Pluchea indica leaf extract at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 2%, and evaluation of their physical characteristics. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the disc diffusion method against Cutbacterium acnes. Additionally, irritation tests and volunteer trials were conducted to evaluate product safety and performance. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and saponins. The extraction process yielded 10.2%. All face scrub gel formulations exhibited acceptable organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and viscosity in accordance with required standards. Testing of the face scrub gels demonstrated antibacterial activity against Cutbacterium acnes; the 2% extract concentration produced the largest inhibition zone diameter (15.16 mm) and was capable of increasing skin moisture. No signs of irritation were observed in volunteer trials, indicating that the formulation is safe for topical application. In conclusion, the ethanolic extract of Beluntas leaves was successfully formulated into a stable face scrub gel that exhibits exfoliating activity, enhances skin moisture, and demonstrates antibacterial activity against Cutibacterium acnes, thereby showing potential as a natural skincare product for acne-prone skin.
