Extract and Activated Charcoal with Hair-Strengthening and Anti-Dandruff Activities. 2026. Undergraduate Thesis, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husada Deli Tua Institute of Health. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) leaves contain secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and polyphenols, which possess antifungal properties and are capable of reducing hair loss. This study aimed to formulate an SLS-free solid shampoo containing green tea extract at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%, combined with activated charcoal. The study use an experimental method by evaluating the quality parameters of the solid shampoo formulation. The evaluation included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, foam height, and irritation tests. The results showed that all formulations met the required physical quality standards for solid shampoo preparations, the antifungal activity test of the solid shampoo containing green tea ethanolic extract and activated charcoal against Candida albicans demonstrated that the 7.5% formulation exhibited the strongest antifungal activity, with the highest mean inhibition zone diameter of 14,75 mm. Furthermore, the 7.5% formulation was more effective in reducing hair loss than the other formulations. The conclusion of this study showed that the SLS-free solid shampoo green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) extract and activated charcoal exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albicans and was effective in reducing hair loss in volunteers. The suggestion from this study is that future studies researchers to use other parts of the green tea plant, develop alternative dosage forms, and evaluate higher extract concentrations using more advanced antifungal testing methods.
