| Abstract | Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) require the rational use of antibiotics to prevent the risk of antimicrobial resistance. This retrospective descriptive study aimed to analyze antibiotic usage patterns and evaluate their rationality among 67 hospitalized UTI patients at Sembiring General Hospital from July to December 2025. The results showed that the patient population was predominantly female (71.6%) and belonged to the <20 age group (32.8%). While 29.9% of patients did not receive antibiotics, the most common regimens among those treated were the combination of Cefixime and Ceftriaxone (26.9%), Cefixime monotherapy (25.4%), and Ceftriaxone monotherapy (11.9%). The evaluation of rationality—based on appropriate indication, drug choice, dosage, and route of administration—revealed an appropriateness rate of 67.2% (45 rational cases) and an inappropriateness rate of 32.8% (22 cases). Overall, antibiotic use at Sembiring General Hospital was considered reasonably rational; however, adherence to treatment guidelines needs to be improved to minimize treatment inaccuracies. | 1 |
