| Abstract | Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem in Indonesia. The continuous use of chemical larvicides may cause resistance and have negative effects on the environment, so safer natural larvicides are needed. Betel leaf (Piper betle L.) contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and essential oils that have larvicidal potential. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) on mosquito larval mortality in stagnant water in Huta III Pematang Kerasaan, Bandar District, Simalungun Regency, in 2026. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design and a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 250 mosquito larvae in instar III–IV stages, divided into treatment and control groups. The treatment group was given 10% betel leaf extract, while the control group received no treatment. The data were analyzed using the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the mean larval mortality in the treatment group was 92%, while in the control group it was 5.6%, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). It was concluded that betel leaf extract (Piper betle L.) at a concentration of 10% was effective in increasing mosquito larval mortality and has potential as an environmentally friendly natural larvicide. | 1 |
