| Abstract | Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, air pollution, and various environmental factors can induce oxidative stress in the skin, thereby accelerating the aging process and reducing skin moisture. Consequently, the development of topical cosmetic formulations containing antioxidant compounds has become an important approach to protect and maintain skin health. This study aimed to formulate a body butter containing a combination of vitamin E and ethanol extract of pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and to evaluate its antioxidant activity using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. This experimental study included the preparation and characterization of pandan leaf simplicia, phytochemical screening, extraction, formulation of body butter, evaluation of the formulation, and antioxidant activity testing. The phytochemical screening results demonstrated that the ethanol extract of pandan leaves contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. All body butter formulations complied with the required quality standards for topical preparations. The antioxidant activity test showed that IC₅₀ values of 94.62 ppm (F0), 85.33 ppm (F1), 59.34 ppm (F2), and 58.33 ppm (F3), whereas vitamin C, used as the positive control, exhibited an IC₅₀ value of 4.24 ppm. Future studies are recommended to include fineness and staining tests, as well as fractionation of pandan leaf extract, to produce a distinctive color in the physical appearance of the body butter preparation. | 3 |
