| Abstract | Acne is a skin disease caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. Tea leaves (Camellia sinensis L.) are known to contain secondary metabolites with antibacterial potential. This study aimed to formulate an ethanol extract of tea leaves into a patch and determine its antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. Experimental research included extraction, phytochemical screening, patch formulation with extract concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%, physical evaluation of the preparation, and antibacterial activity testing. The results showed that the ethanol extract of tea leaves contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins, and was successfully formulated into a patch that met physical requirements. The formula with an extract concentration of 7.5% showed the best antibacterial activity with an inhibition zone diameter of 17.4 mm. It was concluded that the ethanol extract of tea leaves has antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. | 1 |
