Abstract A baby's skin, being very thin and sensitive, requires special care, including the use of body lotion to maintain moisture. To ensure product stability against microbial contamination, manufacturers often add preservatives such as methylparaben. However, the use of methylparaben requires monitoring, as long-term exposure has the potential to cause skin irritation in babies. The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) has established a maximum limit of 0.4% for methylparaben when used as a sole preservative. This study aimed to identify and determine the methylparaben content in baby body lotions available in the Deli Tua area and to evaluate their compliance with BPOM safety standards. This was a descriptive study utilizing purposive sampling to select three brands of baby body lotion (Samples A, B, and C). Qualitative analysis was performed using Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) with a silica gel 60 F254 stationary phase and a toluene:glacial acetic acid (40:10) mobile phase, while quantitative analysis was conducted using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 254 nm. Qualitative test results indicated that all three samples tested positive for methylparaben, with Rf values of 0.73 (Sample A), 0.73 (Sample B), and 0.73 (Sample C), all of which closely matched the standard Rf value for methylparaben (0.73). Quantitative analysis revealed average methylparaben levels of 0.0178% w/w for Sample A, 0.0241% w/w for Sample B, and 0.0235% w/w for Sample C. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the methylparaben levels in the three baby body lotion samples studied remain within the safety limits established by BPOM (< 0.4%). 1
