| Abstract | Raru (Cotylelobium melanoxylon Pierre) is a plant that has potential as an antibacterial agent due to its secondary metabolites. This study is aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of decoction and infusion extracts of raru bark against Streptococcus mutans, determine the differences in antibacterial activity between decoction and infusion methods, and determine the most effective extraction method. The study was conducted experimentally, including the preparation of simplicia, extraction using decoction and infusion methods, phytochemical screening, and antibacterial activity testing against Streptococcus mutans at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Antibacterial activity was determined based on the diameter of the inhibition zone and analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. The results showed that the decoction extract produced average inhibition zone diameters of 20.70 mm, 21.63 mm, and 23.53 mm at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%, respectively, while the infusion extract produced average inhibition zone diameters of 17.46 mm, 19.33 mm, and 21.38 mm, respectively. The ANOVA analysis showed a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The 30% concentration showed the highest antibacterial activity. It can be concluded that decoction and infusion extracts of raru bark have antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, with the decoction method showing better antibacterial activity than the infusion method.
