| Abstract | Cosmetic products with SPF are crucial for skin protection, but they often contain synthetic chemicals that can cause to cause irritation. This research explored the potential of (Moringa oleifera Lam). leaves as an alternative for formulating sunscreen cream. Moringa leaves are rich in phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and antioxidants that have photoprotective properties. Moringa leaves simplicia was characterized, showing a water content of 3.48%, a water-soluble extract content of 45%, an ethanol-soluble extract content of 27.67%, and an extract yield of 20%, which meet the quality requirements of simplicia. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and steroids that enhance antioxidant potential. Four sunscreen cream formulas (F0–F3) with moringa leaf extract concentrations (0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%) were evaluated. Organoleptic tests showed a semi-solid texture with a white to brownish green color and a distinctive odor of moringa leaves. pH testing showed that all formulas were within the safe range (4.5–7), although a decrease in pH occurred with increasing extract concentration. All formulas also met the requirements for homogeneity, spreadability (5–7 cm), and viscosity (2000–50.000 cPs). In vitro SPF measurements showed significant results, namely F0 (base) had an SPF value of 7.16 ; F1 (1%) was 15.15 ; F2 (3%) was 24.70 ; and F3 (5%) was 27.17. Increasing the concentration of moringa leaf extract was positively correlated with increasing SPF values, making F3 the most effective formula in the ultra protection category. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of moringa leaves has great potential as an active ingredient in a safe and effective natural sunscreen cream formulation to protect the skin from ultraviolet light exposure.
