| Abstract | Yemima Enjelin Gea. Formulation and Efficacy Testing of an Avocado Seed Extract (Persea americana M.) Facial Wash Gel Against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husada Health Institute, Deli Tua. (Advisors: apt. Masria Phetheresia Sianipar, S.Farm.,M.Si) Acne is skin condition caused by infection with the bacteria propionibacterium acne dan staphylococcus aureus. One plant with potential antibacterial properties is the avocado seed (Persea mericana M), as it contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloid, flavonoid, saponinns, tannins and terpenoids/steroids. This study is aimed to formulate an ethanol extract of avocado seeds into a facial wash gel, evaluate the physical quality of the formulation and determine its antibacterial efficacy against propionibacterium acne and staphylococcus aureus. This study used a laboratory experimental method. Avocado seed crude extract was prepared using 96% ethanol. The extract was formulated into a facial wash gel at the following concentrations f1: 15% avocado seed extract, f2: 20%, avocado seed extract and f3: 25% avocado seed extract. The formulations were then evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, spreadability, pH, viscosity and foam stability. Antibacterial activity testing was performed by using the disk diffusion method. The results showed that from 500 g of crude drug powder, 87,48 g of extract was abtained with a yield of 17,49%, wich meets the requirements of the Indonesia herbal pharmacopoeia (>10%). Phytochemical screening indicated that the extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids. All formulation met the ohysical evaluation requirements, including a homogeneus preparation, a spread width of 5,9-6,6 cm, a pH of 4,5-5,9, a viscosity of 8033-11200 cp and foam stability that met the requirements. The results of the antibacterial test showed that formulation 3 (25%) exhibited the best antibacterial activity, with an average inhibition zone diameter of 18,88 mm against propionibacterium acne and 19,51 mm against staphylococcus aureus. based on the research results, it can be conclusive that avocado seed extract (Persea americana M) was successfully formulated into a facial wash gel that meets the physical testing requrements for the formulation and axhibits antibacterial activity against propionibacterium acne and staphylococcus aureus. | 1 |
