| Abstract | Free radicals are unstable atoms because they have one or more unpaired electrons, making them highly reactive and potentially damaging to tissues. Antioxidants are compounds that can inhibit or neutralize free radical activity, thereby protecting body cells and tissues from oxidative damage. One of the plants that functions as an antioxidant is green sugarcane. The antioxidant activity test on green sugarcane leaves was carried out by using the (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) method. To determine the secondary metabolites contained in the ethanol extract of green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.), to determine the IC50 value of the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) by using DPPH method and to determine whether the antioxidant activity test of the ethanol extract of green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) has met the requirements of analytical method validation. The sample used in this study was green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.). Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling, which means the samples were taken without considering the location where the plant grew. This testing was conducted by using DPPH method. The IC50 value obtained from green sugarcane leaves was 9.41 µg/mL (classified as very strong). The secondary metabolites contained in green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids/triterpenoids. The ethanol extract of green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) has antioxidant activity. The IC50 value of green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) was 9.41 µg/mL. It is classified as very strong antioxidant if it has an IC50 value of <50. | 1 |
