Abstract Salicylic acid is one of the active ingredients widely used in acne spot treatment products due to its keratolytic activity, which is effective in treating acne. The use of salicylic acid in cosmetic products must comply with the regulations established by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority, with a maximum allowable concentration of 2%. This study aimed to compare the salicylic acid content of several acne spot treatment products, determine the salicylic acid content using the UV-Visible spectrophotometric method, and evaluate its compliance with the maximum limit established by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority. This study used a descriptive quantitative research design involving three acne spot treatment products coded as samples A, B, and C. The determination of salicylic acid content was carried out using a validated UV-Visible spectrophotometric method through linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantitation (LOQ) tests. The results showed that the salicylic acid content of samples A, B, and C was 0.758%, 1.731%, and 1.219%, respectively. These findings indicated variations in salicylic acid content among the analyzed products, with sample B having the highest content, followed by sample C and sample A. The results concluded that all samples contained salicylic acid below the maximum limit of 2% established by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority and therefore complied with the regulatory requirements for salicylic acid content in cosmetic products. Based on the results of this study, future research is recommended to include a larger number of samples and compare the UV-Visible spectrophotometric method with other analytical methods, such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), to obtain more comprehensive results.
