| Abstract | Green sugarcane leaves (Saccharum officinarum L.) contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids, which possess antioxidant properties and have the potential to be used as natural sunscreen agents. This study is aimed to formulate a serum containing ethanolic extract of green sugarcane leaves, evaluate its physical characteristics, and determine its Sun Protection Factor (SPF) using the UV-Visible spectrophotometric method. This experimental laboratory study formulated four serum preparations, namely F0 (0%), F1 (1%), F2 (3%), and F3 (5%) of green sugarcane leaf ethanolic extract. The serum preparations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity, and stability. The SPF value was determined in vitro using the Mansur method at a wavelength range of 290–320 nm with a UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that all serum formulations met the required physical evaluation parameters. The SPF values obtained were 9.52 for F1 (maximum protection), 15.91 for F2 (ultra protection), and 23.52 for F3 (ultra protection), while the commercial positive control showed an SPF value of 30.71. It can be concluded that the serum containing ethanolic extract of green sugarcane leaves possesses sunscreen activity, with the 5% extract formulation (F3) exhibiting the highest SPF value, indicating its potential as a natural sunscreen serum. | 1 |
