| Abstract | Formulation of a Serum Formulation of Bay Leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) Ethanol Extract Serum Against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis Bacteria 2026. Undergraduate Thesis, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husada Deli Tua Institute of Health Sciences (Supervised by apt. Ratna Sari Putri Tarigan, S.Farm., M.Farm.) The bay leaf plant (Syzygium polyanthum) contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids that are capable of inhibiting antibacterial activity.This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of a serum preparation containing ethanol extract of bay leaf against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5%.This research used an experimental method by testing the evaluation parameters of the serum preparation. The evaluation included organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, spreadability test, adhesiveness test, and viscosity test.The results showed that the serum preparation containing ethanol extract of bay leaf at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5% met the evaluation requirements.The antibacterial activity test of the serum preparation containing bay leaf extract against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis showed that the extract was able to inhibit bacterial growth. The 5% concentration had the highest average inhibition zone diameter of 12.77 mm with a strong category, compared to the other concentrations.
