| Abstract | Rambutan peel (Nephelium lappaceum L.) is an agricultural waste that contains secondary metabolites, particularly flavonoids, which have the potential to be utilized as active ingredients in cosmetic formulations. This study aimed to identify the secondary metabolite constituents, determine the total flavonoid content of rambutan peel ethanolic extract using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method, formulate the extract into a micellar water preparation, and evaluate its physical characteristics and stability. The study was conducted experimentally through the preparation of simplicia, extraction by maceration using 96% ethanol, simplicia characterization, phytochemical screening, determination of total flavonoid content, formulation of micellar water containing 5%, 10%, and 15% extract, and evaluation of the formulation, including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, cleansing efficacy, centrifugation, and stability tests using the cycling test method. The phytochemical screening results indicated that the ethanolic extract of rambutan peel tested positive for alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and triterpenoids, while tannins and steroids were not detected. The total flavonoid content of the extract was 40,0768 ± 8.191831 mg QE/g extract. All formulations met the physical evaluation requirements for micellar water preparations. The cycling test results demonstrated changes in the physical characteristics of the formulations, including organoleptic properties, decreased pH, and changes in viscosity during storage. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in pH and viscosity values before and after the cycling test (p < 0.05). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the ethanolic extract of rambutan peel contains flavonoids and can be successfully formulated into a micellar water preparation. However, the extract concentration influenced the physical characteristics and stability of the formulation during storage. | 1 |
