| Abstract | Background Infectious diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus remain an important health problem due to their association with increasing antibiotic resistance. Therefore, antibacterial alternatives derived from natural sources are needed. The objective This study aimed to determine the inhibitory activity of ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.) against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, identify the most effective extract concentration, and compare its activity with Amoxicillin as the positive control. An This study used a laboratory experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The samples were extracted using the percolation method with 96% ethanol as the solvent. The antibacterial activity test was conducted using the disc diffusion method with extract concentrations of 30%, 50%, and 80%, Amoxicillin 20 µg as the positive control, and DMSO as the negative control, each with three replications. The The results showed that the 80% extract concentration produced an inhibition zone diameter of 15.0 mm, categorized as strong. The positive control, Amoxicillin, produced an inhibition zone of 16.3 mm, while DMSO showed no inhibitory activity. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference among treatments (p < 0.05). Therefore, ethanol extract of purple sweet potato leaves has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with the 80% concentration being the most effective concentration. | 1 |
