| Abstract | Food hygiene and sanitation play an important role in preventing food contamination and foodborne diseases. Street food vendors operating around school environments have a significant responsibility to provide safe food for the community, especially students. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of street food vendors and food hygiene and sanitation practices in the school area of Gundaling II Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, in 2026. This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample consisted of 33 street food vendors selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that most respondents had poor knowledge (69.7%), poor attitudes (60.6%), and poor food hygiene and sanitation practices (66.7%). The Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge and food hygiene and sanitation (p = 0.049) and a significant relationship between attitudes and food hygiene and sanitation (p = 0.009). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of street food vendors and food hygiene and sanitation practices in the school area of Gundaling II Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, in 2026. It is recommended that street food vendors improve their knowledge and attitudes through education and training programs on food hygiene and sanitation to ensure safer food handling practices.
